While everyone is waiting for the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, a completely different The Witcher game could appear this year after a leak.

It is clear that CD Projekt Red will continue its The Witcher brand, even if there is no The Witcher 4. The brand is too important for the Polish developers and new leaks show where the journey can go.

Report: New The Witcher game as single player

As the website IGN reports , there should be a new single player The Witcher this year. The game is codenamed Project Golden Nekker and is scheduled for release in 2022. The responsible CDPR studio is the one that also takes care of Gwent. If you're thinking of The Witcher Tales: Thronebreaker, you're not entirely wrong, but you're not entirely right either. As a reminder, Gwent was originally a mini-game in The Witcher 3 and was then released as a standalone multiplayer title. Additionally, the card game mechanic was used in the critically acclaimed adventure game Thronebreaker, released in late 2018.

Now the new Witcher game shouldn't be a Thronebreaker 2. According to Gwent developers, it is "something different". They want to offer "an immersive single player mode for players who prefer it to Gwent's competitive multiplayer mode."

According to IGN, CDPR has hinted at the new project several times over the past few months, mostly in Gwent live streams and community podcasts. As late as December, the prospect of making a corresponding announcement soon was announced.
